A new innovative EU support scheme is ready for the test phase, starting in June!
The Terms of Reference for the OPerational FAcility (OPFA) were agreed among project partners (Arma Dei Carabinieri, SAFE, Romanian National Environmental Guard and Latvian State Police) during the first OPFA WASTE project Management Board meeting, held in early April 2020.
In the course of the 2 year-long project, the Facility will make available approximately 250,000€ in support to on-going criminal investigations targeting Illicit Waste Trafficking.
An initial test phase will be opened only to project partners, while a second full-fledged phase will extend to all eligible Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) the possibility to benefit from the scheme.
At times when measures against environmental criminality are becoming a binding priority for policy makers, LEAs will have the chance to collaborate with a network of qualified experts, building their capacities in the sector and potentially dismantling organised crime groups.
The Facility, managed by SAFE, will:
- Provide financial support to facilitate criminal investigations – intra EU or between EU and third countries – such as participation to Operational Meetings
- Sponsor thematic exchanges on specific needs supporting criminal investigations
- Assist with the leasing or purchasing of specialized equipment strictly needed to implement ongoing criminal investigations
Eligible applications will target criminal investigations already initiated at the time of proposal submission, with operational focus and potential to achieve tangible results in a short time frame.
Queries on deadlines for applications, modality and selection criteria, should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
